Sustainable Development at Lund Stem Cell Center

Advancing the frontiers of stem cell science with innovative ideas, diverse perspectives, and sustainable practices

At Lund Stem Cell Center (SCC), we are committed to advancing stem cell science while keeping our planet and future generations in mind. Integrating sustainable practices into every aspect of our center is not only about reducing our environmental impact but also about fulfilling our responsibilities as scientists.

From innovative research to the everyday operations within our Center, we strive to make sustainable choices that align with the UN (United Nations) Sustainable Development Goals 2030. We are actively working towards promoting sustainable practices in our research projects, optimizing our operations to minimize waste and energy consumption, and developing infrastructure that supports green science.

By embracing sustainable practices, we aim to lead by example and inspire the wider scientific community to prioritize sustainability. Our belief is that sustainability is not an “optional extra” but an integral part of our Center's success. Together, we can create a research environment that not only succeeds scientifically, but also contributes to a better future for all.

Building a Sustainable Scientific Community

Effective communication and education are essential for driving sustainability initiatives.

We strive to raise awareness and visibility among stakeholders within and beyond the Lund Stem Cell Center. Additionally, we are dedicated to hosting events on the topics of sustainable science, featuring seminars by experts and our own change makers.

Stay connected with us through our website, newsletter, and social media channels to learn more about our sustainability goals and engage in our upcoming activities:

Organizing Sustainable Meetings and Events

Our goal is to create sustainable events that prioritize environmental, social, and economic aspects while maintaining high-quality interactions.

Where possible, we make environmentally friendly choices, keeping in mind water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.

We select venues with certifications like the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Green Key to ensure sustainability compliance.

We plan our events to encourage the use of public transportation and leverage technology to minimize paper usage.

We are also collaborating with the SCC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee to integrate equitable policies into event planning and create an inclusive environment at all events for our diverse members.

Facilitating Sustainable Lab Practices

By developing and implementing sustainable practices in our labs, we can lead the way for future scientists to adopt a more environmentally friendly approach.

Our members are joining the global initiative, My Green Labs, to implement ‘green’ changes to our labs, core facilities and infrastructure.
