Stem Cell Stars Seminar with Hanna Mikkola
Welcome to our upcoming Stem Cell Stars Seminar with Professor Hanna Mikkola, from the Broad Stem Cell Research Center at the University of California, USA.
Dr. Hanna Mikkola studies how blood stem cells are generated during embryonic development and how their ability to self-renew and give rise to differentiated blood cell types is orchestrated by cues from their micro-environment. Her aim is to enhance understanding of these processes to generate blood stem cells in the lab, which would improve transplantation treatments for blood diseases like leukemia and aplastic anemia.
With degrees from the University of Helsinki, her interest in hematopoietic stem cell biology began during her post-doctoral training in Stefan Karlsson's laboratory here at Lund University (1998-2000), where she developed lentiviral gene transfer tools to manipulate stem cells.
Join us as we welcome Hanna Mikkola back to Lund for an engaging discussion. Following her talk, network with peers and fellow researchers over refreshments at our post-seminar mingle!
