StemTherapy

Strategic Research Area for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine

StemTherapy is part of a national initiative in Sweden, to develop strategic research areas of excellence. Initiated in 2009, it provides financial support to stem cell and regenerative medicine research based at Lund University and includes collaboration with Uppsala University.

In 2009, a nationwide initiative to develop world-leading research environments in Sweden was established by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research and the Swedish Government. Lund University received strategic research funding for 12 strategic research areas (SRAs) of excellence, including StemTherapy.

Today, strategic research funding through StemTherapy provides support to all 43 research groups at Lund Stem Cell Center and four research groups at Uppsala University.

The continued support provided by this initiative has allowed the Center to develop into an internationally renowned hub for stem cell research. It facilitates the integration of young principal investigators into our network and fosters scientific and intellectual development by supporting collaborative projects, technological facilities, events and more.

From its inception to the present, the environment has had its own board, which provides direction with regards to strategic planning and development.
