Science to Schools Outreach Programme
Connecting Lund University researchers with middle-school classrooms across Skåne
We believe science grows stronger when it is shared. When students meet researchers face to face, they see how scientific ideas take shape, how discoveries unfold, and how many different paths can lead into a scientific career. For researchers, these visits offer a chance to connect with the community, strengthen communication skills, and broaden the impact of their work beyond academia’s walls.
Science to Schools is an outreach initiative led by Lund Stem Cell Center, in collaboration with several of Lund University’s Strategic Research Areas (SRAs) and the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine (WCMM). Each autumn, the programme brings researchers into middle‑school classrooms across Skåne for a half‑day visit filled with curiosity‑driven conversations, open questions, and personal perspectives on life in science.
During the visit, researchers share stories from their work, describe their research journey, and talk with students about what science looks like today. The goal is to help young learners experience science as something accessible, creative, and full of possibilities. This programme targets young students, ages 11-13, to open their minds to science before entering high-school (gymnasium).
Inspired by other outreach initiatives which target high school students, the Science to Schools programme for middle schools began in 2023. In 2025, 25 participating researchers visited four middle schools in and around Lund, with an estimated 150 young students reached by the programme. The participating researchers and schools have described the programme as interactive, valuable, and fun.

About the Science to Schools 2026 Programme
This year, the Science to Schools programme will once again visit middle-schools for a 2-hour classroom visit (half-day morning session including travel) on Tuesday, October 20th, 2026.
Lund University researchers from all scientific backgrounds and all career stages are invited to take part. No outreach experience is required. What matters most is curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to engage with students. To particpate, researchers need to prepare a 5-minute popular science presentation showcasing their research.
An information meeting for all participating researchers will take place on Thursday, May 7th at 11:00 in the BMC:A12 conference room located at Lund University’s Biomedical Centre located on Sölvegatan 17, Lund, as well as online (link shared following registration).
We hope you will join us in this great opportunity to show young learners what science looks like, and the diverse individuals who contribute to it.
Are you a Lund University researcher interested in joining this year’s programme?
Please register your interest before April 30, 2026 using the following link (Microsoft Forms).
