Strategic Research Area: StemTherapy

In 2009, a nationwide initiative was established in order to lead and develop world-leading research in Sweden. Lund University received strategic research funding from the Swedish Foundation for Stategic Research and the Swedish Government for 12 strategic research areas (SRAs) of excellence. Of these 12 SRAs, StemTherapy (the strategic research area for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine) continues to be supported by this funding. The StemTherapy environment includes all 43 Stem Cell Center research groups, as well as four research groups at Uppsala University.

Lund Stem Cell Center (SCC) has been enhanced by StemTherapy, enabling the center to develop into an internationally renowned research hub whilst facilitating the integration of young principal investigators into our network. Furthermore, StemTherapy promotes the scientific and intellectual development of the center by supporting collaborative projects, technological facilities, events and more.

From it's fruition to present, in terms of strategic planning within StemTherapy, the environment has its own Board and also a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). The SAB consists of world-leading researchers in the field of basic stem cell research, as well as more clinically focussed research and industry. The SAB members were appointed to evaluate our environment's development and results, in order to achieve the best possible direction for the future.
